Who I Am
I understand that wise stewardship of our water resources is an important key to protecting our quality of life. I have experience and background -- in science, law and planning. Having run, and lost, a race for the MRGCD, I am interested in continuing the conversations I have had -- and in turn, doing something constructive.
* UNDERSTANDING the complex scientific and legal issues affecting the region
* SERVICE to the community of water users for many years
* PASSION for ensuring water for our future
A long-time resident of New Mexico, I am a graduate of Los Alamos High School and the University of New Mexico, emphasizing in chemistry and then law. Together with my husband, Peter, I practiced law in Alamogordo, lived abroad in Mexico and Costa Rica, and then attended the UNM School of Architecture and Planning, focusing on water and border issues. Since 1990, we have made our home in Albuquerque, just a few blocks from the river.
Elaine knows about water and the bureaucracies that control it, and brings a compassionate blend of urban and rural sensibility. She actually understands where her tap water comes from, and why ag matters! Lisa Robert, June 2011
